The front suspension is currently being built by Max at Bio Kustumz. It will lay out on a 22" wheel and get atleast 12" of travel. The spindles, control arms, and the engine crossmember will all be hand fabricated out of sheetmetal. No round or square tubing will be used. The factory steering was ditched in favor of a Mustang II rack (more to come on that!) It will use RE7's and Fox Racing 2.0 shocks. Factory Blazer spindle design was incorporated for the C6 Z06 Corvette Brake swap.

I decided to go this route because I wanted an S10 that was totally different than most. Granted, its still the civics of trucks, but its just something I've always wanted.

Advantages:
12 to 14" of usable lift.
Very little camber
Max Fish's pony tail

Disadvantages:
Its not Bolt-on
Its Not S10forum approved

I hold autograph sessions on full moons and leap years. Call my agent for details.

This might help a little...

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k238/LOW_S-10/090513_175335.jpg

so pretty much since the rack and pinion are behind the motor everything has to be reversed.. but why does the rack and pinion need to be behind the motor? just for cosmetics or is it for caster and minimize bump steer?

either way its F'n awesome!

Roberto
05-15-2009, 01:57 AM
It's just for kicks. The rack is actually too long and it would have to be mounted very high if it were front steer. This way, I can make it act like its mounted high and put it anywhere I want.

I heard your going the custom spindle route. I'm super excited.

yea, i decided to do so because i was reading into the custom knuckles (or how ever its called) and take in account the added costs in tires with stock spindles versus the custom spindles.

and im doing a lug conversion because i like a certain 5 spoke wheel.

so it seems like its a must.

And your not limited to a suspension that was designed for far less than what we put it through. You can basically start over if you want too.

esp since your gunna body drop it, gunna suck if you have to have the motor raised up higher or more back than you realy need too.

Just hate too see those arms hitting the side of the block or the headers

if you look at where the tabs for the upper control arms, they seem to be in line with the heim joint. depending on the overall width of the frame, it might be enough to turn lock to lock.

true, but that v8 is one big motor tho... its crammed in a regular s10 frame to begin with. So if this new frame is skinnier than stock when turning those arms could hit the headers.. Granted you can build around them but still again with the crampness and stuff

The crossmember has the diamond north to south. A couple of inches past the control arm mounts, it will transition it into an east to west diamond. This will help decrease the overall height of the rail for the body drop.

"A" valving which has a stiff ride to compensate for the 22's and 6.5" of travel.

What's happening next?

My next step on this project is for it to transition from an engine crossmember into a frame. Keith has a good start on the rails already, but I'm lacking the rear end and wheels for him to finish her up. Once those two major pieces are taken care of, I can get all of the C6 brakes and S/S plumbing done. I really dont have a deadline for this project, so the frame won't be done until early next year.
