This is Erik (HockeyThug) on the forums bug. He brought it in for us to bag. Today i got the rear end all torn out and started modifying the rear section to clear the underside of the car and the gas tank and the exhaust. Heres a few pics to get it started.

Got a little more done today. Cutting the section out really cleared up some room and let the wheel tuck much more. Heres a few pics

How far forward is that gonna pull the wheel when its down? Thats what i cant stand about swing arms/2link setups.

We are prolly gonna work on that later this year. Keith wants to redo the whole back and move it back a inch or two.

Yea you can pull it back to get it centered when its down but then when it lifts it throws it way off again the same amount. You really need to raise that front mount up, ALOT to get it right. I dunno if you even could if you wanted to, you would have to cut the hell out of the car to do that. A mini 4 link might would work better, even a short ass 4 link wont get that kinda drastic wheelbase change, depending on lift. I dunno, im just bored and looking, throwing out ideas. You guys will figure it out, looks good though!

Awesome work, I have seen countless older VW's with air suspension but very few newer.

Nfamuskeith
06-05-2009, 12:26 AM
Yeah we talked about extending the links more or less and trying to find a happy medium. Really isnt a lot of room for a 4 link unless we completly cut everything out and rebuild it. We will just have to see later on this year what we can come up with!

I didnt get any finished pics before Erik took his bug back to Minnesota. But if he post some pics up the front is not at low as we were hopeing becuase the struts we were using were to long. But once he comes back after for school were gonna see what we can do about getting the front down a little lower.

if you ended up get teh mac kit its going to be as low as mine. unless keith can figure out a way to get it lower. the strut its self is to long. if you could cut the body and shaft about an 1"-2" it would lay crossmember after you notch for the tie rod ends. and the fokes on the tex can give some use ful info. dorbits with the surf wagon gave me alot of insite on the diffrent set ups and what gets you low.
